The Canadian Rockies Tour

 

Discover the beauty and majesty of the Canadian Rockies. Drive west to Lake Louise, the “Jewel of the Rockies.” This stunning lake is situated in a small glacial valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Enjoy a hike on one of the many trails and visit nearby Moraine Lake with its awe-inspiring deep teal color. Drive along the stunning Icefields Parkway. Along the way, stop at the Columbia Icefield, the largest icefield south of Alaska. While here, take a breathtaking Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier or join a guided glacier walk. Continue north and see beautiful Athabasca Falls, one of the most powerful falls in the Rockies.

In Jasper National Park you will have plenty of time to explore on your own. Enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities, including hiking, canoeing, and mountain biking. Discover Maligne Lake, the second-largest glacier-fed lake in the world, and take a cruise across the lake to Spirit Island. Retrace your steps along the spectacular Icefields Parkway and stop at any of the gorgeous sites you might have missed on your prior journey. Then, on to Banff, “Canada’s Highest Town.” Explore the rugged alpine beauty of Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park. Take a gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain for spectacular mountain views. Enjoy scenic Tunnel Mountain Drive with views of the Bow Valley, Bow Falls, and rock formations called “hoodoos.” In the evening, visit the bustling main street or take a relaxing walk along the Bow River.

 

Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrive in Calgary: A complimentary transfer is provided to you hotel. Your Tour Director is at the hotel this afternoon to greet you and answer questions.

Day 2: Calgary & Lake Louise: We journey to Banff National Park and explore three of North America''s most beautiful lakes, starting with Lake Louise, one of the most breathtaking settings in the world. Enjoy a narrated promenade along the lakeshore and learn about the geography and history of the area. Next is Moraine Lake, nestled in the dramatic Valley of the Ten Peaks. We then cross the Continental Divide and enter Yoho National Park. See the Spiral Tunnels, Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake, a jewel sparkling with the blue-green hue of an emerald. We end the day in the nearby hamlet of Lake Louise. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Lake Louise, Columbia Icefield & Jasper: Today your Tour Guide will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We travel along the world-famous Icefields Parkway, one of the world''s most spectacular mountain drives. Marvel at the unsurpassed scenery including sub-alpine forests, meadows, massive glaciers and remarkable lakes. Keep an eye out for grizzly, black bear, moose, elk and other wildlife. At the Columbia Icefield, we board an Ice Explorer for the trip of a lifetime as we drive onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. We then drive to the quaint township of Jasper, where we spend the next two nights. After dinner, we enjoy a fun and informative lecture on the area''s abundant wildlife. (B, D)

Day 4: Jasper National Park: Sightseeing & at leisure We start with a narrated walk along Maligne Canyon, one of the most beautiful gorges in the Canadian Rockies. Marvel at the spectacular rock formations and waterfalls and learn about one of Canada''s longest underground river systems. The rest of the day is at leisure. Activities abound in Jasper National Park and your Tour Guide will provide you with suggestions. (B)

Day 5: Jasper, Icefields Parkway & Banff: Snow-capped peaks, hanging glaciers, pounding waterfalls and surging rivers dominate the landscape as we head back toward Banff. After lunch at the beautiful Lodge of the Ten Peaks,we ride the Lake Louise Sightseeing Gondola to the top; here enjoy award-winning Interpretive Programs including indoor presentations on grizzly bears and themed guided walks. We arrive at the quintessential alpine village of Banff and enjoy an orientation tour. See Bow Falls, the classic viewpoint of Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive and the wind-shaped“hoodoos”overlooking Bow Valley. (B,L)

Day 6: Banff: At leisure Today is at leisure in Banff for you to pursue your own interests. Why not take an optional helicopter flight over Mount Assiniboine, a Banff Gondola ride, or a relaxing float trip down the Bow River? This evening join us for a Farewell Dinner at the hotel. (B,D)

Day 7 - Banff: Depart Calgary This morning we descend from the Canadian Rockies on our way back to Calgary. A complimentary transfer is provided to Calgary International Airport and the Trafalgar hotel in Calgary for passengers extending their stay. (B)

Tour includes: Transportation, lodging, transfers and baggage handling and meals as indicated on the itinerary. All rates are per person in U.S. dollars based on shared occupancy. Single supplement is $900 for this tour. Tour does not include Sales tax, air transportation to and from Calgary or any optional tours, liquor, items of personal nature or purchases made onboard the vessels.

Travel Insurance: We strongly suggest purchasing trip cancellation/interruption insurance to protect your travel investment at the time you sign up for one of our trips.
