Trip Itinerary - 6 Hours

This morning you will meet your guide at the Whittier cruise ship terminal. Pick up time is between 7:45 - 8am. We will transfer your luggage to our vehicle and  begin your 6-hour adventure. Immediately after leaving Whittier, you will enter the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel (often referred to simply as the Whittier Tunnel) a multi-use highway and railroad tunnel that passes under Maynard Mountain. This tunnel is the second longest highway tunnel and longest combined rail and highway tunnel in North America. As we exit the Whittier Tunnel, you will enjoy beautiful mountain vistas as we drive along Portage Valley until we reach the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

On this tour, you will visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, which is located at the southern edge of Turnagain Arm at the entrance to Portage Valley. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a non profit organization dedicated to conservation, education, and quality animal care. They're also dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife. Animals that are unable to be released or survive in the wild are given refuge in the center's spacious habitats. Here people can safely get close, observe and photograph some of Alaska's largest land animals, including moose, bison, elk, deer, caribou, bears muskox, small mammals and birds of prey. During spring and summer, visitors can often witness the rehabilitation of orphaned baby animals of various species. After an informative visit to the center with the largest of Alaska's wild animals, your tour will continue on to Anchorage with a few more stops along the Seward Highway and the Turnagain Arm. This road is considered to be America’s most beautiful and scenic road. Along the way we will try to spot moose, Dall sheep, eagles and other wildlife.  We will make a lunch stop in Girwood, at one of our favorite cafes. On our way towards Anchorage, we will make a couple of stops for photo opportunities at Beluga Point and Bird Point.

Allow up to 6 hours (approximately) to Anchorage for this tour. At the end of this tour, we can drop off at any Anchorage hotel or at the airport. Snacks and light lunch is available for purchase at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
